Virgílio (“V”) Bento is the Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Sword Health, a $4B health technology company pioneering the world’s first AI Healer. Under his leadership, Sword has raised more than $400M from leading investors including General Catalyst, Founders Fund, Khosla Ventures, and Sapphire, and its AI platform Phoenix has already delivered over 6.5 million sessions, treating more than 500,000 patients across physical pain, women’s health, and mental health while helping clients avoid nearly $1 billion in unnecessary healthcare costs.

Bento’s vision for Sword was shaped by his early recognition of the gap between healthcare needs and what traditional models can provide. During his PhD in Electrical Engineering at the Universidade de Aveiro, he established the theoretical foundations for AI-augmented care and has since authored more than 40 peer-reviewed publications and holds 40 patents spanning artificial intelligence, neuroplasticity, and sensor fusion algorithms.
